About

Callan Clancy's injuries, hospital treatment and death were addressed through medical testimony and forensic evidence in the prosecution of his mother, Lindsay Clancy. His father, Patrick Clancy, identified his photograph and confirmed that he was eight months old. Emergency physician Benjamin Kaufman testified that Callan arrived at Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth with CPR ongoing. A heartbeat returned after epinephrine, but Callan did not breathe independently during Kaufman's care and was transferred by helicopter to Boston Children's Hospital. Andrew Capraro described brain swelling consistent with insufficient oxygen and blood flow, neck marks consistent with strangulation, and a continuing need for ventilator support.

ICU physician David Casavant described testing that established death by neurologic criteria. He testified that life support ended on January 27, 2023, after consultation with Callan's father and time for family to see him. The court admitted Callan's Boston Children's Hospital records. Other evidence included a DNA stipulation identifying Callan as a major contributor to the profile from the middle of a blue exercise band. Toxicologist Alicia Zimmerman reported no substances detected in the screens of his hospital blood and urine samples. In the jury instructions, Judge William Sullivan explained that the instructions applied separately to the indictment concerning each child, including Callan.
