2023
Responders find the three children injured at their Duxbury home after a 911 call. Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3, are pronounced dead at a hospital. Callan is transferred to Boston Children's Hospital. Lindsay Clancy is also hospitalized with injuries.
Callan dies three days after he and his siblings were found at the family home.
Appearing remotely from a hospital, Clancy pleads not guilty to three counts each of murder, strangulation, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Plymouth District Court.
A Plymouth County grand jury returns an indictment charging three counts each of murder and strangulation.
Clancy is arraigned at Tewksbury State Hospital on the indictment. She pleads not guilty and is held without bail at the facility.
July–September 2026
The Commonwealth and defense present their opening statements in Plymouth Superior Court before Judge William Sullivan. Patrick Clancy is the first witness.
The prosecution completes its initial case. Sullivan denies a defense motion for a required finding of not guilty, and the defense begins calling witnesses.
Kevin Reddington rests the defense case after psychiatrist Phillip Resnick's testimony. The Commonwealth begins calling rebuttal witnesses.
Both sides give closing arguments. After final instructions on the evidence, burden of proof and deliberations, Sullivan sends the case to the jury.
After jurors report that they cannot reach a unanimous decision, Sullivan declares a mistrial and discharges the jury. No verdict is returned.
September–October 2026
The defense seeks a finding of not guilty and dismissal on double-jeopardy grounds. Prosecutors have not decided whether to retry Clancy. Sullivan schedules a further hearing for November 2.
The judge rejects the defense argument that prosecutors presented insufficient evidence. His decision leaves the mistrial in place.
Sullivan denies the defense request to question a juror at the November hearing. He leaves the dismissal motions unresolved. The next court hearing remains scheduled for November 2.
