Margaret Hamp testified for the defense about Lindsay Clancy's compassion as a fellow nurse, concern for her children, and earlier distress on hearing about maternal violence. Cross-examination established that Hamp had no in-person contact with Clancy after Callan's birth and did not know about her struggles.
Margaret Hamp

Labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital and Lindsay Clancy's former colleague.
About
Margaret Hamp testified for the defense on Day 14 about Lindsay Clancy's conduct as a fellow labor and delivery nurse and parent. A Mass General nurse, Hamp said she believed they worked together from 2015 until Clancy went on leave in 2022. She described Clancy as compassionate toward patients and recalled her seeking parenting advice. Hamp also recounted Clancy requesting a police wellness check when Cora was crying on a monitor and Patrick did not answer calls.
On cross-examination, Shanan Buckingham established that police responded and everything was fine. Hamp acknowledged that she had not seen Clancy or visited the house after Callan's birth, had exchanged only brief texts with her, and did not know about her struggles. Hamp described her medication-related training as limited. She agreed generally that Zoloft is deemed safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding and that medication compliance is needed to manage bipolar conditions. Those answers did not address Clancy's diagnosis or medication use.
On redirect, Kevin Reddington asked about Hamp's experience with patients' mental health. Hamp recalled a pregnant patient arriving with plans to harm herself during the summer Clancy began working there. Hamp said this prompted a discussion of pregnancy and postpartum mental health. According to Hamp, Clancy had not heard of the Andrea Yates case and cried when Hamp explained it, asking how a mother could hurt her children. The Commonwealth declined further questions.
