Sarah Carney

Sarah Carney testified for the Commonwealth on Day 9 about Lindsay Clancy's appearance and behavior during social encounters. A longtime friend of Patrick Clancy, she reported noticing no changes after the children's births, but thought Lindsay looked thinner and more frail at a fall 2022 drop-off.

Carney described Lindsay as quiet but fairly normal at a January 22, 2023 bonfire at Carney's home. She observed no faster speech or confusion. When she asked how Lindsay was doing, Lindsay gave a brief positive response, and Carney did not pursue the subject. Carney had not discussed postpartum depression or sleep difficulties with her. She also recalled posted exercise videos featuring the children in the background, but could not independently remember exercise equipment or bands.

Cross-examination established that Carney had seen little of Lindsay that winter and agreed they were not close enough for Lindsay to confide in her. Her account therefore concerned outward observations rather than disclosures about Lindsay's condition. On redirect, Carney agreed that Lindsay had always been quiet with her over twelve years. She was then excused.
