About

Andrea Hennigan testified for the Commonwealth on Day 8 about Lindsay Clancy's reported symptoms and efforts to obtain treatment. A Massachusetts General Hospital labor and delivery nurse, Hennigan believed they had worked together for seven years. She recalled Clancy appearing like her usual self during a June visit, then discussing insomnia, not feeling herself and concern about returning to patient care at a November lunch. Hennigan and two other nurses encouraged help, and she sent Clancy names of obstetrical social workers or support groups.

During direct examination, Hennigan expressly paraphrased a January 23 exchange in which Clancy reported continuing psychiatric care to find medication that would permit sleep and daytime functioning despite adverse effects. Hennigan recalled no concern about self-harm after that exchange. She did not agree that the messages marked a more positive tone, explaining that Clancy had consistently sounded hopeful about obtaining care. She acknowledged no formal postpartum-depression training and difficulty separating what she knew about the treatment setting at the time from information learned later.

On cross-examination, Hennigan described Clancy as an excellent, nurturing nurse and loving mother while also recalling mental distress, doubts about returning to work, treatment and repeated reports of unspecified medication side effects. She was more certain that insomnia and brain fog appeared in texts than that those terms were used at lunch. When defense counsel named McLean Hospital, she confirmed that Clancy had described an intensive program rather than a hospital stay. She also recalled regular home-camera checks during night shifts but did not know Clancy's specific reason for them. The Commonwealth declined redirect, and Hennigan was excused.
